Name

Carine DOO, a family company, was founded on 21. April 1991. Cedomir Popovic, the founder of the company, has given the name Carine after the mountain village of exquisite beauty, where our family started agriculture business. This was his way to pay homage to to the place of our beginnings, the place where connection to the nature is deepest.

History

Agriculture was a traditional activity throughout our family history. Growing our farm to 500 sheep and 20 cows, recognition of Cedomir Popovic as the best young agriculture producer in Yugoslavia in 1979, provided excellent base to next step in our company development – retail.

Heavy investments in the mentioned farms, all following strict EU standards, made our products of highest quality recognizable in both domestic and regoinal market.

In 2005., together with opening our 5th supermarket, we opened first multi-cuisine 5* restaurant – Carine Centar; a 700 seats site where you could enjoy national, Italian and French cuisine, homemade cakes and ice creams, as well as cocktail bar and terraces overlooking the main city square. Hospitality was added to our portfolio of activities.

Although hotel Delfin was purchased in 2000., and renovated from 2* to 3* property, tourism was not in our focus until 2013. Constructing of a small 33-apartment building in Podgorica, selling of all farms except sheep farm and leasing of supermarkets, was a turning point when tourism became our primary activity. From 2013. To 2019. We have constructed 714 rooms in 3 hotels in Herceg Novi region: CH Delfin 4*, CH Park 4* and CH Kumbor 5*. This year we will be opening a small 33-rooms city hotel in Podgorica.

Sustainability and CSR policies

Throughout our development, we have always been devoted to implementation of new, eco-friendly, high-efficient materials. We understood that the higher initial investment cost will provide huge benefits on a long run.

Renewable sources of energy and energy-efficient materials have always been imperative when it comes to construction in Carine DOO, while operations of our hospitality business are constantly improved by removing single-use plastic, usage of eco-friendly cleaning products, locally grown food, preserving water and electrical energy through smart systems.

Renewable energy and efficient usage

Since our major reconstruction of CH Delfin we started replacing traditional energy with renewable sources, sea and sun. At the same time, we started implementing materials with high energy efficiency in all stages of the construction such as facades, windows, etc.

But it would be impossible to achieve any of those goals without our employees, so we are constantly investing in their knowledge, and we have zero tolerance for any kind of discrimination or child labor.

All our hotels have VIESSMANN solar panels installed for preparation of how water using energy of the sun.
Our heating and cooling systems are using energy of the sea for adjusting water temperature in the system; Zero to no energy is wasted – during the cooling season, warm water from the system is used to heat swimming pools.
Glass surfaces in our hotels are Saint-Gobain and have highest efficiency factor.
Smart systems in our hotel ensure that electricity is switched off as soon as guest leaves the room; when window is opened, air conditioning stops.
Lightning in all our hotels is LED; we also have movement sensors to prevent unnecessary electricity usage.
Water is preserved through hotel policy to change towels and linens only upon request of the client; our WINTERHALTER washing machines use minimum amount of water per wash, as well as Eco Label chemicals.
Smart irrigation system prevents excessive usage of water in our gardens.
All our facades are ventilated, and provide highest degree of insulation in our facilities.

All these improvements, together with our employees and clients, help us reduce carbon footprint of our hotels, and impact on the Earth. We are constanty trying to improve and use the best materials that are on the market.

Sustainable policies

Sustainability has always been important in our family. Since our humble beginnings, we learnt to protect the Nature as it was providing life to us. Treating the Nature in the sustainable way always brings high rewards in the future, and of coruse, that overwhelming feeling of doing something good for future generations.

From 2020. All our hotels are single-use plastic FREE.
Gardening is our trademark; in all our projects special attention is devoted to landscape design and planting.
Water fountains are to be found in all corridors in our facilities, to prevent usage of plastic bottles.
All the chemicals we use for cleaning, swimming pools and other are Eco labeled.
Indoor facilities are all non-smoking
Apart from our BIO production in our sheep farm, we are always trying to purchase from local suppliers and strengthen domestic companies.
Used vegetable oil is given to local biofuel producers.
Throughout show cooking we are reducing food waste to minimum.
Agreement with municipality regarding waste collecting.

Goals

Our goals are to improve in waste management, and from this year we will pay special attention to waste separation. Also, we are considering composting and partnering with local landscape company.

Connecting and partnering with local suppliers has always been high our priority list, and we strive to always improve those partnerships.

Through our Carine DMC incoming agency, we are promoting visits to our national parks, wild beauty of Montenegro. We also offer hiking tours, bike tours and boat cruises and helping people reconnect with Nature.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Carine DOO was founded in 1991., and ever since has been recognized localy and internationaly as a company with strong moral principles. We are well known for transparency, correctness and fullfilling our obligations as agreed. We try to nurture healthy working enviroment, always paying special attention to the needs of our employees. Majority of our coworkers are with us for more than 10 years, which makes us very proud.

In 2021. We will be celebrating 30 years of our company. Amongst other actions, we will be donating a statue of our ancestor Marko Miljanov Popovic, famous Montenegrin duke and writer, to the municipality of Herceg Novi, together with the statue of Medun, place of birth of Marko Miljanov. We will pay homage to our history and our roots, and create attraction for the city at the same time, as our famous ancestor lived and died in Herceg Novi.
